A House, a Refuge, a Base for Exploration.

In the untamed Patagonia of Aysén, on the shores of Lake General Carrera, Casa Bahía Patagonia becomes a refuge — a singular place to gather, defined by space, privacy, and quiet. From here, the lake’s vast basin unfolds: glaciers, marble caves, powerful rivers, and national parks, all to be explored at your own pace.

Experience Patagonia at its Essence

More than a stay, Casa Bahía Patagonia offers a way of being. A place to take in the landscape without rush, to explore freely, to truly connect, and to return to a simpler rhythm shaped by light, weather, and place.

Contemplation

Walking through the forest, tracing the lake’s edge, and listening to the silence invite a deeper connection with what truly matters.

Exploration

Navigate through marble caves and alongside glaciers, descend the Baker or Murta rivers, and explore trails and national parks — all within a day’s reach.

Communion

Conversations, laughter, and gathering around the warmth of the fire. Long tables, vast landscapes, and a renewed sense of wonder. A return to being truly present.

Unhurried

A place to enjoy at an unhurried pace. To stay for a few days, pause time, and let nature set the rhythm.

Days to Explore, Days to Linger

Some days invite exploration — glaciers, rivers, trails, and national parks. Others invite you to stay, to enjoy the house, the landscape, and time shared together. A place where each day finds its own rhythm, at an unhurried pace.

Hiking

From short forest walks around the house to a couple of hours’ hike to a glacier viewpoint, or multi-day journeys through sublime landscapes — the choice is yours.

Horseback Riding

Whether riding through the Valle del Engaño to a natural hot spring, or along a lakeside forest of arrayán trees, horseback riding becomes a way to connect with the essence of Patagonia’s ancestral exploration.

Boat Excursions and Kayaking

The marble formations can be experienced up close by kayak, the Murta River flows through vivid hues, and boat excursions to Laguna San Rafael or the Leones Glacier bring you closer to the ice and its movement. A more physical, more direct experience — just as awe-inspiring.

Fishing

At dawn or before sunset, the best hours for fishing unfold — whether by boat, from the lake’s shore, or in the nearby stream. Perhaps a rainbow trout, or a perch if luck is on your side. All just a short walk from the house.

Excursions

From the house, half- and full-day excursions can be arranged to some of the region’s most iconic places. Whitewater rafting on the Baker River, boat trips to Puerto Cristal and its mining past, visits to Patagonia National Park or the Baker–Neff confluence offer more immersive days, combining geography, history, and exploration.

Cultural Experience

Beyond the landscape, the experience deepens through encounters with local roots. Rural markets, rodeos, traditional festivals, visits to the Santa Rosa chapel or the Bahía Murta museum reveal a living Patagonia — shaped by history, craft, and a direct relationship with the land that still endures.

An incredible house in a truly wonderful setting — everything was perfect. It offers even more than what’s shown in the listing, especially in terms of kitchen equipment. The rooms are very spacious, all with private bathrooms. A real luxury surrounded by nature and very close to the lake, which makes it even more special. Matías was very attentive and friendly, and responded quickly to everything. We will definitely stay again!

Mathias's house if the most beautiful one I have ever lived in. There is only one such house in the world. Uniquely designed by a local architect, it is very large to accommodate a large group of people. The rooms are spacious and very comfortable, with a lot of windows and outstanding view. The house is built from local materials and combine different types of wood for different functions, stone and marble from the area. The floor is just unbelievably amazingly beautiful where beautiful wood trunks are embedded into the floor and surrounds by stones. In short - one of the most beautiful houses all of our group member have seen! The house is surrounded by large private land on the lake where the Mathias has two beautiful wild horses. For some, just live in the house, explore the immediate outdoor and nature is relaxing all is needed to have an amazing vacation! I dream about coming back to spend more time in this amazing home!

We had the great fortune to stay in Matías’s place. Matías went above and beyond to make our stay special, from suggesting outings, to confirming that our kids could use the nearby basketball courts, to arranging for a traditional Patagonia asado, which included a whole lamb roasted outdoors. Our group of 10 fit comfortably. This amazing house would be perfect for artist retreats. We loved eating meals around the beautiful dining table, lounging by the fireplace and strolling the land. Breathtaking stargazing just by walking out the back door. So many adventures available from this location. We did the boat tour to San Rafael glacier, the marble caves tour (highly recommend leaving from Puerto Sanchez – the road there is steep, winding and gorgeous), and a kayaking trip along Rio Murta, a calm river unless, like us, you’re completely hapless and get some quirky Patagonia weather, which made the trip much more exciting. We're already plotting our next stay. ¡Gracias por todo, Matías!

As you’d expect from the photos on the listing, this place is spectacular. In fact the photos don’t do the place justice. It really is a beautiful and incredible home. The log fire is an awesome touch and really brings the entire house to life. The ensuite rooms are nothing short of a five star experience. The additional benefits of staying here is Matias‘s hospitality. He is a kind, professional, and incredibly welcoming host who was responsive and lovely guy. Everything was beyond our expectations. I can’t recommend it highly enough.

Matías’ house is a beautiful place surrounded by nature. It has everything a large family or group of friends might need to fully enjoy their stay. The experience of being there is wonderful — you can see animals, reach the lake in just a few steps, and explore a truly unique landscape. We were delighted with Matías’ house and will definitely try to return.
Quedamos encantados con la casa de Matías y trataremos de volver
